The Renovation of the Dorottya House

July 2019

The rehabilitation of the Esterházy family manor is underway in Kaposvár. The baroque-style building from the 17th century was named after the title heroine of the comic epic of the epoch by Csokonai Vitéz Mihály. The upper floor of the aristocratic manor - that serves as the center of the Somogy estate of the Esterházy counts - was built in the 19th century, and the alterations carried out in the last century have made it what it is today. During the refurbishment works the floor structure of the building will also be replaced.

The old filling was removed from the top of the vaulted ceilings above ground level, because of the high loads it imposed on the structure. Also, the developer needed to statically reinforce the old ceilings in a few places. To compensate the loads on the cleaned old floors, the Energocell® foam glass granules were placed in a layer of variable thicknesses, which compared to the old filling shall impose lesser loads on them - due to its 150 kg/m³ bulk density. On the granule layer, separated by a PE membrane, a new cast-in-place concrete floor was executed, on which the new internal layer structure was built.
